About SMS Sheriff

SMS Sheriff is a free, community-powered tool for identifying and reporting smishing — phishing attacks delivered via SMS. Submit a suspicious text message and our system will analyze it to determine whether it is a scam.

Verdicts

• Safe — no threats detected.
• Smishing — a phishing attack sent via SMS, designed to steal credentials or personal information.
• Scam — fraudulent or deceptive content, such as fake prize notifications or advance-fee fraud.
• Unsafe — suspicious content that does not fit neatly into another category.

Privacy

We store the SMS content, sender name, and sender phone number you submit, along with the analysis result. Sender phone numbers are partially redacted in the public UI. We hash your IP address for rate-limiting purposes and do not store it in plaintext. Do not submit messages containing your own personal information.

Contributing

Every report you submit helps build a public record of active smishing campaigns. You can also use the feedback button on any result page to flag incorrect verdicts, helping us improve accuracy over time.
